Are you a criminal lawyer looking for a career move? We are looking for two talented and skilled legal research officers to join our highly accomplished Research and Sentencing team.
We have two opportunities available: one on-going opportunity and one parental leave cover. For both roles, we are open to part time (minimum 4 days/week) and would also consider a secondment from another agency. The parental leave cover is a 12-month contract.
The successful candidate will:
- Review and prepare draft material, and conduct legal research, in relation to legal issues addressed in either the Sentencing Bench Book, Local Court Bench Book or Criminal Trial Courts Bench book.
- Review and prepare draft material, and conduct legal research, including in relation to criminal procedural, sentencing and evidentiary issues
- Write/contribute to articles concerning trends in criminal law, sentencing patterns and current legal issues suitable for publication by the Commission
- Oversee more junior members of the team
The ideal candidate will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in law plus a minimum of four (4) years’ experience in the practice of criminal law
- Demonstrated criminal trial experience and/or conducting criminal law matters
- Extensive knowledge of criminal law including sentencing law, evidence law and criminal practice and procedure
- High level oral and written communication skills, including an ability to produce legal text to a standard suitable for publication
- Supervisory experience in a legal office environment
- Ability to work in a small team, as an active and contributing member, and autonomously

Remuneration package from $113,574 – 125,720, plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.
