If so, you might be the person we are looking for to be an EL 1 Senior Legal Officer within the Nuclear-Powered Submarine Regulatory Design (NPSRD) team.

 

We are looking to fill several EL 1 Senior Legal Officer roles within the following functions:

 

As the EL1 Senior Legal Officer Commercial & MOU, you will lead the provision of high-level legal advice on major, complex and sensitive issues supporting the creation of the Australian Naval Nuclear Power Safety Regulator (ANNPSR) which may include matters relating to commercial agreements, procurements and the drafting and negotiation of memorandums of understanding. From time to time, you may be required to provide legal advice on other matters.

 

As the EL1 Senior Legal Officer FOI & Privacy, you will assist in the provision of legal advice on major, complex and sensitive issues arising from the creation of the Australian Naval Nuclear Power Safety Regulator (ANNPSR) as those issues relating to FOI and Privacy. Additionally you will be expected to have relevant knowledge of information disclosure. You will require an in-depth knowledge of, and compliance with, legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements. You will exercise a considerable degree of independence, perform a subject matter expert role and will exercise sound decision-making and judgement to provide expert policy advice. You will engage in complex to very complex problem solving and issue management and may coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects, which impact strategic, political or operational outcomes for Defence.

 

As the EL1 Senior Legal Officer Legal Policy and Legislation, you will assist in the provision of legal advice on a legislative framework for the Australian Naval Nuclear Power Safety Regulator (ANNPSR). You will also assist in the creation of legal policy that informs the legislative parameters of the Australian Naval Nuclear Power Safety Regulator (ANNPSR). Additionally, you will be expected to have relevant knowledge of legal policy development, and the creation and amendment of legislation (both primary and subordinate). You will require an in-depth knowledge of legislative frameworks, parliamentary processes and government decision-making. You will exercise a considerable degree of independence, perform a subject matter expert role and will exercise sound decision-making and judgement to provide expert policy and legislative advice. You will engage in complex to very complex problem solving and issues management and may coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects, which impact strategic, political or operational outcomes for Defence.

 

As a result of the unique workplace context, candidates may be required to undertake additional security related checks.

 

Whilst this position has been advertised through Department of Defence, in line with the announcement made by the Australian Government on 14 Mar 23, this position will move to a new Statutory Agency with an effective date yet to be confirmed.

 

These roles support additional remuneration benefits which is applied as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the rate of salary otherwise payable under the Enterprise Agreement (EA). For further information, please contact the contact officer.
