Family Law Partner – National Law Firm – Melbourne CBD Office

Key Responsibilities: As the Family Law Salary Partner, you will be responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of family law matters and managing a team that provides services in the following areas, including:
- Client Interaction: Attend initial client conferences, providing expert advice on family law matters, including property settlements and children’s issues.
- Domestic Violence (DV) Experience: Advise and represent clients in DV-related family law matters.
- Property and Children’s Matters: Handle complex property and children’s matters, providing strategic and practical legal advice.
- Drafting & Correspondence: Draft high-quality legal correspondence for clients, other solicitors, independent experts, superannuation funds, the court, and Counsel.
- Agreements: Prepare Binding Financial Agreements (BFAs) and Binding Child Support Agreements (BCSAs).
- Negotiation: Engage in extensive negotiations, including property settlements and children’s matters, to secure optimal outcomes for clients.
- Court Documents: Draft, finalise, file, and serve court documents, ensuring compliance with all relevant legal requirements.
- Court Appearances: Attend First Returns, conciliation conferences, interim defended hearings, and final trials.
- Mediation & Conciliation: Some experience in attending mediations and conciliation conferences, handling interim defended hearings, and final trials.
- Court Preparation & Counsel Instruction: Draft memorandums to Counsel, prepare briefs, and attend to instruct Counsel at various court events.
- Divorce Proceedings: Draft and manage Applications for Divorce, attending hearings as required.
- Costs Agreements: Prepare and manage costs agreements and notices, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
- Police Prosecution Negotiation: Negotiate with police prosecution on behalf of clients, leveraging your experience as a duty solicitor.
- Intervention Orders: Advise clients on their rights and potential outcomes in relation to Intervention Orders, ensuring sensitive and effective representation.
- Wills & Powers of Attorney: Take instructions, provide advice, and draft, finalize, and execute Wills and Powers of Attorney for clients.
- Managing an Existing Team: This will be you taking the lead, but more importantly being a leader and putting your hand up and taking responsibility for your team and leading them to success.
About You:
- Must hold a practicing certificate in Victoria or equivalent.
- Must be at the Partner level or Special Counsel level with a proven track record of Family Law experience.
- Specialist accreditation is highly regarded, but not essential.
- Must have a business development mindset and wanting to grow and mentor the team.
- Extensive experience in family law, including property and children’s matters.
- Proven ability to negotiate complex settlements and represent clients at various court events.
- Experience in Wills and Powers of Attorney, including drafting and executing these legal documents.
- Ability to handle multiple matters concurrently while providing high-quality service to clients.
- Strong drafting, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience instructing Counsel and managing legal teams to deliver client-focused outcomes.
- Excellent knowledge of family law legislation and procedures.
- A demonstrated ability to mentor and lead junior lawyers and legal staff.
