About Us
At ReturnToWorkSA our purpose is to empower and support South Australians impacted by work injury. Our services and those delivered by our claims agents are designed to provide early intervention support to workers and employers following a work injury to ensure the worker can recover and return to work as quickly as possible. In addition, we manage the collection of premium payments from registered employers and our invested funds to ensure we maintain a viable financial position that enables the delivery of quality support and services to injured workers.
Our Senior Scheme Legal Officer Role
Reporting to the Manager Scheme Legal, this position protects Scheme integrity by contributing to the effective management of significant legal cases and the provision of legal advice to support legislative change and protect or challenge Scheme boundaries.
As part of a team culture of care you will:
- identify significant cases for the scheme
- work with panel solicitors and provide instructions on matters
- prepare case summaries of significant decision and draft ReturnToWorkSA positions statements
- advise and inform ReturnToWorkSA regarding significant case conduct
- provide accurate advice on a range of matters affecting ReturnToWorkSA
- collaborate to identify process improvement initiatives and efficiencies
- review and update case instructions
- consider proposed legislative changes
- manage external costs
About you
The lawyer we seek will have a strong background and deep understanding and interest in workers compensation law in SA, an unrestricted practising certificate and hands-on experience in advising clients before the various Courts and Tribunals in SA. Additionally, they will possess evolved interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to influence and consult at all levels, and the capacity to develop and manage collaborative relationships.
The benefits
The total remuneration package for this position is between $107,842 – $113,459 exclusive of superannuation. The final offer will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications, skills and experiences.

Special requirements/Conditions
- Bachelor of Laws with solid post admission experience in workers compensation
- Admission as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia with an unrestricted practising certificate.
