The Practice Group Manager is a key leadership position within the Workplace Injury Commission (WIC).

You will lead and manage a team of Arbitration Officers to deliver high quality, timely and accessible arbitration services and support the fair, informal and cost-effective resolution of worker’s compensation disputes in accordance with the objectives and requirements of the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act (Vic) 2013.

As arbitration is a new WIC service, you will promote, lead and support best practice in arbitration to ensure delivery of a consistent and high quality arbitration service.

Harnessing your leadership skills you will build a high performing, collaborative and supportive Arbitration team, including promoting a professional, constructive and accountable culture.

Concurrently, as a member of the leadership team, you will contribute your experience collaboratively with other leaders to identify and actively respond to employee, stakeholder and service challenges.

Who we’re looking for:

To succeed in this role, you will have:

●       Qualification or significant relevant experience in at least one of the following: Alternative Dispute Resolution, Law, Psychology, Occupational Health and Safety, Social Science.

●       Sound knowledge of the Accident Compensation Act 1985 (ACA), the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013 (WIRCA), and the workers compensation scheme in Victoria.

●       Sound working knowledge, or ability to gain such knowledge, of the Victorian WorkCover scheme, including knowledge of the workers compensation legislation, employment and industrial law and an understanding of issues that give rise to disputes in the workers’ compensation field.

●       Ability to lead arbitration hearings consistent in a fair, impartial, and informal manner which are procedurally fair and which establishes and maintains the independence and authority of WIC and enables meaningful participation by the parties and their representatives and ensures that the hearing addresses all relevant issues.

●       Demonstrated ability to conduct arbitration hearings in complex disputes, make and deliver determinations, in accordance with Victorian workers compensation and other relevant legislation, Ministerial Guidelines, codes of conduct, WIC policies and procedures and relevant legal authorities;

●       Appropriate qualifications or experience to conduct arbitrations and lead a team of independent statutory decision makers, with appropriate knowledge and high level experience in statutory decision-making
