Job Description

As well as relevant academic qualifications, we’re looking for graduates with highly developed written and oral communication skills, strong analytical and people skills, and those who can demonstrate influence, initiative, fairness and respect.

As a Treasury graduate in the Australian Government’s leading economic policy adviser, you will work on policies that impact the organisation and the Australian economic landscape. Our program offers targeted training and development while you will complete three 8 month work rotations to develop your skills, knowledge and confidence as an influential Treasury employee.

Treasury Graduates have the opportunity to learn from others who have expertise in areas such as:

fiscal, tax or social policy
law, legislation or regulatory policy
market conduct and consumer data policy,
macroeconomic modelling
foreign investment

domestic and international economic conditions

As a graduate you will receive:

Australian Government Graduate Program – Economist Stream

The Treasury is also leading the graduate recruitment for the Australian Government Graduate Program – Economist Stream with the assistance of an outsourced provider and involvement from participating agencies who are seeking Economist Graduates. The Economist Stream will be advertised in early March 2024 and you can apply for both the Treasury Graduate Program and the Economist stream Graduate recruitment process – just make sure to check the eligibility requirements for this stream.

Eligibility

To apply for our 2025 Graduate Development Program you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

be an Australian citizen (or become an Australian citizen by December 2024)
education requirements:
complete or will complete, an Australian-recognised undergraduate qualification (bachelor degree or higher by 31 December 2024)
hold a bachelor degree at a minimum, most recent eligible qualification must be no more than 5 years old, (for example, you have or will complete between 1 January 2020 and 31 December 2024) performed well over the course of your studies to ensure that you are competitive in the selection process
be willing to move to Canberra for the program duration or travel to Canberra for learning and development activities if placed in our Sydney or Melbourne offices
be willing to obtain and maintain a valid Australian Government security clearance once accepted into the program
be willing to undergo any police, character, health or other required checks.
