ABOUT THE ROLE
To provide commercial and effective legal support to enable Apex Group’s business in the Oceania region to meet its goals and objectives; to act as an effective member of the Apex legal team and assist the General Counsel for Oceania as required; to ensure that Apex’s interests in its relationships with customers, suppliers and business partners are protected

Job Responsibilities:
The role duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:

  • Provide practical, responsive, and commercially astute advice on a wide range of legal matters and commercial issues and risks affecting the operations of Apex Group in the Oceania region.
  • Advise on contracting including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts with clients, vendors and internal stakeholders. Design, develop and maintain contract templates and precedents.
  • Assist with litigations, arbitrations, regulatory investigations and work with regulators as appropriate.
  • Work on various projects, including Apex’s M&A projects leading to the successful integration with M&A targets.
  • Carry out legal research as required and keep abreast of legal and regulatory changes in the Oceania region and advise the business as appropriate. Co-ordinate and support the transition arrangements for legislative changes.
  • Work closely with the Compliance Department on various compliance issues particularly on AML, KYC, FATCA, CRS, and other compliance related requirements.
  • Identify legal issues that may affect the successful operation of the business and develop appropriate commercial solutions.
  • Assist in developing policies and procedures and embed within the business.
  • Brief external counsel from time to time on matters that require expert advice.
  • Undertake varying levels of tasks when required (from the mundane through to the challenging) as part of delivering required results to clients and as a Legal team member.
  • Other tasks as assigned from time to time.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor of Laws degree essential.
  • Admitted as a legal practitioner in New South Wales (or comparable jurisdiction) and holds a current Legal Practising Certificate.
  • At least 3-5 years professional legal experience in the financial services department of a major Australian law firm. Specialist funds management experience and/or privacy experience will be highly regarded.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory and legislative requirements of the Australian financial services industry essential.
