About the Role

An exceptional career opportunity exists for a broadly experienced Senior Solicitor to provide expert legal advice to the General Counsel and Senior Staff. You will work across a broad range of practice areas including the areas of administrative law, corporate governance, legislative compliance, intellectual property, contractual arrangements, negotiation, complex dispute resolution and commercialisation. Core Responsibilities

  • Provide expert legal advice and strategic support to University leadership and senior staff on a broad range of complex commercial, administrative and governance issues
  • Draft, negotiate and provide advice in relation to agreements and documents relating to Intellectual Property, real property, commercialisation, estate matters, procurement and administrative law matters
  • Advise on legislation and its impact on University operations, including the provision of advice on compliance regimes
  • Provide advice and manage legal disputes and negotiations for the University, including any litigation process in which the University is involved
  • Develop and maintain legal precedents, resources and other documents based on best legal practice

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Recognised degree in law from a Higher Education Provider and a current South Australian practising certificate
  • Minimum 7 years post qualification experience handling complex matters under minimal supervision to a level at least equivalent to a Senior Associate in a mid to top tier firm
  • Experience providing accurate and practical legal advice across a range of complex legal issues relevant to the tertiary education sector
  • Experience in “plain English” drafting and negotiating a range of commercial/research related contracts
  • Proven ability to mentor and supervise junior/graduate solicitors
  • Highly organised with the ability to deal effectively with a high-volume workload
