Addisons currently has an excellent opportunity for an experienced Registered Trade Mark Attorney or Trade Mark Lawyer to join the IP practice on a full time or part time, permanent basis.

Who We Need?

You will be an experienced Registered Trade Mark Attorney or Trade Mark Lawyer with a minimum of 4 to 5 years practising in one of these roles.

Our team requires someone with very strong technical knowledge of Australian trade mark law and practice. Experience with New Zealand trade marks will also be beneficial but not essential.

Good communication skills and attention to detail will be key, together with the ability to maintain and work on various matters under instruction from various IP Partners and other lawyers in the firm when required. You will be a team player and commercially minded when it comes to solving our clients’ legal challenges and value a positive team environment.

The role is preferably Sydney based with hybrid working arrangements, but we will consider the right person residing elsewhere.

Position Overview

Primarily your work will cover all aspects of trade mark practice and you will be acting in respect of local, regional and international clients, covering a very broad range of industries. The Addisons’ IP team works for organisations ranging from start ups to well established businesses, including highly recognisable Australian and overseas brands.

This is a senior role with room to grow and develop further, and you will have direct Partner and client contact and be working on a wide range of issues, including all facets of trade mark prosecution and advice, including trade mark registration both national and international, drafting specifications of goods and services, conducting and reporting clearance searches and drafting opinions.

You will be experienced in drafting and submitting trade mark applications and legal and associated correspondence with IP Australia and WIPO, as well as working with foreign agents. Your work will also encompass oppositions, assignments, removal applications, design searches and registration, preparation of evidence, as well as general and strategic trade mark and IP advice.

You will be working directly with Addisons’ IP Partners and lawyers in respect of the broad range of trade mark and IP work. Additionally, your role will involve assisting on due diligence, commercial and transactional matters in respect of IP, trade marks and related advice and assistance to the corporate and commercial teams of the firm.

Under the guidance of the IP Partners and senior lawyers, you will also be involved in mentoring and supervising more junior lawyers in the team and marketing and business development activities to promote the growth of the practice.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Laws;
  • Admitted as an Australian Lawyer; or
  • Australian Registered Trade Mark Attorney;
  • A good working knowledge of WebTMS is preferred but may not be essential for the right candidate.
