Job Description

Position Overview

Reporting to the National Judicial Registrar –Native Title, the position of National Logistics and Remote Hearings Coordinator is responsible for the management of the risk management and logistical aspects of Court proceedings conducted outside of the Court registries, the maintenance of equipment and training of Court officers to facilitate such proceedings.

Major Activities

  • Provide national support to Judges, Registrars and other staff in the conduct of proceedings outside of the Court registries.
  • Develop and maintain national standards, procedures, manuals and forms that take full account of occupational health and safety issues and make best use of the Courts electronic systems for interactive accessible documentation.
  • Liaise with IT, Finance, HR, Procurement and any other relevant internal areas of the Court or regarding remote facilities, technology and other requirements for remote travel.
  • Coordinate training for relevant officers, including remote first aid, 4WD training, court officer, video and audio recording and maintain registers documenting the currency of such training.
  • Support native title staff in State Registries to prepare travel planning and budgetary documents or fulfil those functions personally as required.
  • Attend remote proceedings to provide logistical and on-ground support from time to time.
  • Liaise with and manage the contracts for remote hearing transcript providers and any other contracting arrangements related to native title proceedings outside of the Court registries.
  • Acquisition and maintenance of all equipment necessary for the conduct of Native Title matters outside of Court registries, including first aid equipment and supplies.
  • Other duties as required

Competencies & Attributes

The successful candidate will demonstrate high level administrative and project management skills with an ability to meet deadlines, attend to detail and work with limited supervision. The role requires initiative and an ability to identify consequential impacts and linkages between different areas of the organisation.

The role requires excellent judgment, an ability to respond decisively and instil confidence in others often in challenging circumstances. High level written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with small teams to manage events is essential.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience and demonstrated competency organising complex logistical arrangements in remote and/or regional Australia required.
  • Experience working with indigenous communities and relevant qualifications desirable.

Special Requirements

  • Travel to remote locations and flexibility to work irregular hours
  • Driver’s licence (preferably manual) and experience driving 4WDs
  • Current First Aid Certificate

Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated capacity to manage an event in a remote or regional centre detailing the processes undertaken to plan and implement the event.
  2. Understanding of the processes necessary to review and update the Federal Court travel and logistics policies and resource materials and evidence the ability to conduct such a review and produce resulting policy and procedure documents.
  3. Knowledge of important considerations for a Court proceeding convened in an Indigenous community.
  4. Demonstrated ability to use electronic information systems and deliver nationally accessible and interactive training modules, forms and administrative guides.
  5. Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills with people from diverse backgrounds.
  6. An ability to meet competing deadlines with a high degree of accuracy.
