Job Description

The Australian Government is looking for a new President of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) to lead the AAT during a period of significant and exciting reform.

On 16 December 2022, the Australian Government announced its intention to replace the AAT with a new administrative review body. The new AAT President appointed through this process will become the inaugural president of the new administrative review body, once established, for the remainder of the term of appointment.

Expressions of interest are invited from eligible and suitably qualified persons. The appointment is full-time and for a period of up to seven years.

Applicant information

The President is responsible for the overall management of the AAT, with the assistance of the division heads and the AAT Registrar.

The AAT President must be a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia. Therefore, the successful applicant will either be an existing Judge of the Federal Court of Australia, or be suitable for appointment as a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia.
