Job Description

AUSTRAC is Australia’s anti-money laundering and counterterrorism financing regulator and specialist financial intelligence unit. AUSTRAC strives to be a global regulatory leader and the primary source for financial intelligence in Australia.

As National Manager, Legal and Enforcement (SES Band 1), reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Regulation, Education and Policy, you will be a member of AUSTRAC’s executive team dedicated to protecting the community from financial crime risk. In leading AUSTRAC’s enforcement approach you will work closely with other regulatory parts of AUSTRAC and other executives to ensure that businesses comply with anti-money-laundering and counter terrorism financing obligations. As AUSTRAC’s General Counsel, you will also provide expert advice to the CEO and other executives on a range of legal matters.

To be a strong contender for this critical role you will have demonstrated experience in undertaking enforcement activities and litigation matters, a good understanding of regulatory environments, and relevant legal qualifications. You will be respected as a leader who nurtures teams and contributes to organisational stewardship, and have a strong focus on results. Your integrity, judgement and astute decision-making credentials will be complemented by first-class communication and relationship building skills.

Position Eligibility Requirements

The successful applicant will be required to satisfy AUSTRAC’s pre-engagement checks and obtain and maintain an ongoing NV2 security clearance. To be eligible for assessment, applicants must be an Australian citizen.
