About the opportunity

Reporting to the Manager Legal Services, your role as Legal Officer is to provide specific legal services to enable efficient and compliant service delivery to the Torres Strait region.

Key responsibilities of the role –

  • Responsible for the provision of specific legal services as a member of the Legal Services team, including accurate, ethical, strategic, and timely advice and representation of Council to enable efficient and compliant service delivery to the Torres Strait region
  • Develop, review, and respond to complex legal documentation pertaining to and measurable against areas and scope of responsibility, including but not limited to:

contracts

correspondencepolicies and procedures

pleadings

forms

notices and briefs

To be considered for this role, you must have –

  • Attainment of a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) demonstrating a high understanding of legal principles and practice.
  • Possession of, at a minimum, a current Unrestricted Employee Practicing Certificate issued by the Queensland Law Society, or immediate eligibility to hold same.
  • Admission as a Solicitor on the Roll of Practitioners of the Supreme Court of Queensland and High Court of Australia, or immediate eligibility to hold same.
  • Minimum four (4) years demonstrated legal experience practising in the following disciplines:

Land Law (with a remote indigenous community focus)
Property Law (leasing, licensing, etc.)
Contract Law
Governance
