Job Description

Administrative Review Tribunal

Appointment of the Principal Registrar

The Australian Government is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated candidate to fill a professionally rewarding role as Chief Executive Officer and Principal Registrar (the Principal Registrar) of the new Administrative Review Tribunal (the Tribunal). This is an exciting opportunity to be a key part of the new system of administrative review in Australia.

Expressions of interest are invited from suitably qualified persons who wish to be considered for a five-year appointment on a full-time basis.

Applicant information

The new body will commence with the same caseload as the current Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT). The AAT reviews government decisions in a wide range of areas, including migration, refugee visas, the NDIS, social services, child support, taxation, workers’ compensation, Freedom of Information, veterans’ entitlements, security, and other matters.

The Principal Registrar will also manage the corporate and registry services of the Tribunal. As the Tribunal’s inaugural Principal Registrar, the successful applicant will be pivotal in establishing the Tribunal, finalising the transition from the AAT and setting up the Tribunal for long-term success. The successful applicant will lead with integrity and promote a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace culture.
