Our General Counsel Role

Reporting to the CEO, the General Counsel will work across a range of areas, including legal advisory and projects, company secretarial, compliance and risk.

As well as providing corporate and commercial advice, transactions and projects and working closely with the management team, this role will allow you to use your non-legal skills and help Cairns Airport achieve its strategic objectives. You will also provide effective advice on and manage company secretarial and regulatory issues.

A senior role, you will provide leadership and guidance to a small team of internal or seconded staff, assist executives enthusiastically with legal advice, and manage relationships with external law firms.

The General Counsel We Seek

To be considered for the role you will have around 10 or more years of quality training and experience gained in either a leading law firm or in-house and an interest in aviation/airports or projects. You will have a background in either commercial, property, construction/infrastructure and enjoy working in a hands-on role, contributing as part of a team, and providing pragmatic and commercial advice.

In addition to the above, you will understand the role requires not just technical skills but the willingness to contribute to leadership, tone, and culture. You will be capable of dealing with senior managers, be flexible in adapting to change, focused on customer service, and looking to make a long-term commitment to the business and team.

This role will suit a senior lawyer who thinks commercially and isn’t afraid to provide a number of options to our help our business meet its needs.
