The opportunity 

This leading commercial disputes team within the QLD gov’t are highly regarded for the outstanding delivery of legal services. You will work in an intellectually stimulating and challenging environment while working alongside leading lawyers who will help you hone your skills and develop your career.  

What you will do 

Conduct civil proceedings on behalf of the Govt and Govt Corporations and Instrumentalities and to:

– provide specialist representation before all State Courts and Tribunals;
– provide representation at and advice on dispute resolution procedures;
– draft pleadings, affidavits and other court documents; and
– appear on uncontested applications
– provide high quality advice in respect to matters arising out of the areas of litigation referred to below,
including, but not limited to advice on liability, evidence, quantum, settlement, costs, strategic direction or
other aspects of matters arising from the carriage of the action.

Undertake litigation and provide advice in relation to the following areas of law:
– commercial disputes
– construction disputes/sub-contractors charges
– real property disputes/fraud on title claims
– repossession
– debt recovery
– insolvency
– property damage claims
– injunctive relief
– trespass, property damage and negligence claims (other than personal injuries)
– trade practices disputes/consumer law disputes
– defamation
– public officer superannuation recoveries
– revenue recovery and appeals
– false imprisonment and malicious prosecution claims
 
Skills/Experience

The ideal candidate will be an litigator with at least 4+ years of PAE. Ideally, you will have a sound understanding and of knowledge of relevant legislation and be familiar with the Rules of the State, Federal and High Courts.

In addition, you will have experience gained in the private practice environment; have strong technical and communication skills; be a team player and client focused.
