An exciting opportunity has become available in their Melbourne inner city headquarters to join their expanding global legal team

About this role…
Reporting to the Legal & Finance Director (who is also a Lawyer), you will be joining a well established legal function, both locally and globally. The Director has been with the business for over 10 years, and has a wealth of knowledge they can share with you.

Your role will be to provide sound pragmatic commercial legal advice, mitigate risk and ensure the business meets its Australian compliance obligations. 

You will liaise with a variety of key stakeholders within the business, including the CEO, other members of the global legal and compliance teams, research and sales teams, and Directors of General Medicine and Oncology. 

You responsibilities will include (but not limited to):-

Legal (Approx. 75% of work mix)

  1. Provision of a broad range of legal drafting and negotiation of commercial agreements such as clinical trial agreements, IT agreements (including software licenses), supply agreements and service agreements;
  2. Providing privacy advice, including GDPR, and liaising with their global legal team to ensure local compliance;
  3. Ad hoc daily legal advice to the whole Australian business, generally of a commercial nature including intellectual property and contractual issues;
  4. Liaising with external legal on competition and trademark/patent matters;  
  5. Attend monthly meetings with the global legal and compliance teams to discuss any relevant matters. 

  
Compliance (Approx. 25% of work mix)

  1. Implementation and management of the company’s compliance framework including global policies and procedures;
  2. Ensuring the company adheres to local industry codes and requirements when engaging with public, patients and doctors;
  3. Liaise with the medical team to provide prompt compliance advice to the whole Australian business; 
  4. Provide legal training to staff/new starters around such topics as privacy laws, ethics, 3rd party due diligence and whistle blowing.    

  
About You… 
To be successful in the role candidates will have:

  1. Ideally 5+ year PQE commercial law experience, including drafting a wide range of commercial agreements;
  2. Some exposure to IP Law;
  3. Previous in-house experience ideal, but not essential;
  4. Strong drafting skills;
  5. Strong negotiation skills and comfortable leading negotiations;
  6. Ability to explain in layman terms what the business risks are;
  7. Ability to think commercially;
  8. Strong written and verbal communication; and
  9. Good level of confidence
