Job Description

Enjoy deals, PE and M&A? Run significant transactions in-house in this rare role offering the best of both worlds. Strong package and benefits.

  • Substantial Deals, PE and M&A focus
  • Top-tier in-house team
  • Excellent benefits and package

The business

Exclusive to Burgess Paluch, our client is a significant fund with a highly active and involved deal book. Unusually, a role has arisen in Melbourne for a senior legal counsel (SA level or so) who enjoys doing deals and working on large projects but wants to take their career in-house. Forget about focusing just on reg or contractual terms, this role suits a true PE/M&A lawyer who wants to take their career in-house without losing out on deal experience.

This business is well known, has a substantial market cap, significant local  assets, and a profitable and sustainable model, delivering high rate returns with interests in share markets, projects and infrastructure. Its large legal team is highly ranked, full of quality lawyers, and actively engaged within the business and highly sought by it.

The role (Melbourne or Sydney Based)

Joining the large Australian legal team as senior legal counsel, in perhaps your first or second in-house position, this role offers both hands-on business engagement and engaging work within the legal team. Broad in scope, the position has a focus on assisting on deals and investments, some of which will be market leading and which will use your PE and M&A skills effectively.

Who it will suit

Suited to a pro-active and team oriented M&A lawyer, this role will require a well trained and intelligent lawyer with quality drafting and advisory skills, superior commercial nous, and good interpersonal skills. As the legal team is closely knit and high-quality, someone who is keen, motivated and able to contribute will be highly sought.

The benefits

While the role will pay well, with a strong package, as expected from a blue-chip brand, there are a range of additional benefits available to suit, including WFH, training, career development and defined opportunities for advancement. Additionally, this business is recognised for hiring and producing quality lawyers, and there are long term career opportunities available within the legal team. There will be a chance to work with switched-on and high achieving executives, lawyers and professionals, as well as interact with top-tier legal teams. Led by a savvy former top-tier General Counsel, this strong team will ensure your success.
